How EC Integrators developed an Enterprise Data Management Strategy and Roadmap for the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research to maximise opportunities for research success
Enterprise Data Management Strategy and Roadmap
Research Roadmap Leads to Success
The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) is Australia’s oldest medical research institute. Based in Melbourne, WEHI has over 800 researches who work on major global healthcare challenges such as cancer, infectious disease and immune disorders.
In mid-2017, WEHI secured USD325 million by selling part of the royalty rights for its anti-leukaemia drug Venetoclax, and this monetisation was expected to have profound organisation impact. A data management strategy was needed to deliver services and measurable business benefits aligned to WEHI’s vision and strategy objectives.
EC Integrators (ECI) was engaged to develop an Enterprise Data Management Strategy and Roadmap for WEHI. As WEHI relied more heavily on professional services data as a corporate asset, ECI developed a strategy and roadmap of initiatives to support WEHI’s researchers’ immediate and long-term business data requirements. The Enterprise Data Management Strategy and Roadmap would also enable WEHI’s Executives to make informed decisions on trusted data.
ECI focused on developing a strategy and roadmap which would achieve highly cost efficient, effective and fit-for-purposes professional services systems, and services that were flexible and adaptive to research drivers to maximise opportunities for research success.
ECI completed WEHI’s Enterprise Data Management Strategy and Roadmap on time and on budget. As a result of the success of WEHI’s Enterprise Data Management Strategy and Roadmap, ECI is being further engaged to start the data governance implementation phase at WEHI, which remains on-going.
